Dr. Hackney (1)

Dr. Tristan Hackney is a general practice veterinarian with broad experience in companion animal care. Originally from the Florida Keys, his love for animals began at an early age with a pair of Siamese cats he lived with on the family’s sailboat. Throughout his childhood, he was surrounded by numerous pets including dogs, cats, birds, fish, iguanas, and a rabbit. That early experience helped shape his lifelong love for animals and the connections people form with them.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from the University of Miami. After college he moved to New York City and began his veterinary career at Heart of Chelsea. It was here that he developed a passion for animal health and client relationships. After several years of working in various roles he went on to attend veterinary school at St. George’s University followed by a year of clinical training at The Ohio State University.

After returning to New York, Dr. Hackney completed a rigorous rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan receiving advanced training across multiple specialties in a high-volume referral hospital setting. Bringing his career full circle, he returned to Heart of Chelsea as a doctor.
He now provides well-rounded, attentive care to pets and values the long-term relationships he builds with their families. His areas of interest include preventive care, internal medicine, and surgery.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Hackney lives in Greenpoint with his wife, daughter, and their beloved pitbull, Toby. He enjoys staying active through running and cycling, exploring new places through travel, and catching live music whenever he can.
