I was referred by a friend – how do I let you know?
The greatest compliment Heart of Chelsea Veterinary Group can receive is the referral of a new client and his or her pet. We really do appreciate this gesture and are happy to apply a $99 credit to your friend’s account at our hospital! When you fill out the welcome sheet at your first appointment, please let us know the name of the friend who referred you.
It’s my pet’s first time at one of your clinics. What should I bring?
Please bring any previous medical records with you and, if you’re coming for a wellness visit and it’s been more than six months since your pet was tested for parasites, please bring a stool sample for your first appointment. It is important that the sample be no older than 24hrs. If necessary, you can store it in a sanitary container in a refrigerator prior to your visit.
Do I need an appointment to be seen by a doctor?
We see patients on an appointment basis. If you arrive as a walk-in, we will make every effort to see you as soon as we can, however priority is given to clients and their pets with appointments.
Can a doctor diagnose my pet over the phone?
No. At Heart of Chelsea Veterinary Group every diagnosis is preceded by a thorough physical exam.
What forms of payment do you accept? Do you offer payment plans?
For your convenience, Heart of Chelsea Veterinary Group accepts cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover payments. We do not offer payment plans, but we do work with CareCredit, a healthcare financing company. You can find more information about CareCredit here.
Can I fill another veterinarian’s prescription at your hospital?
We are only able to fill a medical prescription for an active client that has received a physical examination at our hospital.
How can I obtain a copy of my pet’s medical record?
Just ask! We know that many boarding facilities, play groups and travel companies require a medical record, and we’d be more than happy to print, fax or email those documents for you.
Where can I take my pet after hours?
Blue Pearl is an emergency veterinary hospital that is open 24hrs/day. In case of an after-hours emergency, you can take your pet to one of two locations in Manhattan:
1 West 15th St. (corner of 5th Avenue)
New York, NY 10011
410 West 55th St. (between 9th and 10th Avenues)
New York, NY 10019
I’m going to be traveling and taking my pet with me. What are the requirements? Can your hospital help me get ready?
Every airline and country has specific requirements for pet travel. Heart of Chelsea Veterinary Group is proud to have an official International Travel Team that is prepared to guide you through the process. Please be advised that some travel requirements are lengthy and in certain instances may take months to fulfill. Call us as soon as you know you’re traveling.
My pet is really scared of the vet, and can be very aggressive. What should I do?
If you know your pet is especially scared, and possibly aggressive, at the vet, please let us know when you book your appointment. Our veterinary team is very experienced when it comes to fearful and aggressive animals and we will take extra care to make your visit as safe and comfortable as possible.
What kinds of animals do you treat?
At Heart of Chelsea Veterinary Group, we treat cats and dogs only. If you are looking for veterinary care for a pocket pet, bird or reptile, you may contact Blue Pearl, St. Marks Veterinary Hospital, The Animal Medical Center, or The Center for Avian and Exotic Medicine.
