Dr. Cai was born and raised in New York City. She spent a lot of time as a child at her local public park and library, reading about animals, digging for earthworms in the dirt, and hunting for butterflies in the gardens. A career as a veterinarian was the perfect fit for her combined love for animals and medicine. She attended Columbia University, where she received a BA in Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology. While in college, she worked at a small animal clinic in Brooklyn, obtained her wildlife rehabilitation license, volunteered at the New York Aquarium, and became Fear Free certified.

She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. While pursuing her degree, she worked in the hospital’s small animal intensive care unit. Dr. Cai also completed externships at Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group as well as the Center for Avian & Exotic Medicine. During her time at Cornell, she was vice president of the Veterinary Business Management Association and trained seeing eye dogs for the visually impaired. Her special interests include internal medicine, critical care, ophthalmology, and behavior. She is particularly passionate about pet owner education and contributing to access to care in the veterinary field.

Dr. Cai lives with a Cocker Spaniel mix named Ruby and a Siamese mix named Crystal. In her free time, she enjoys singing, dancing, playing video games, walking around the city, and sleeping.
